Sworn translations.

Legalization  is the authentication or certification of a signature by a public administration official who writes his initials on the translated and “sworn” document.
The authorized office can be found at the Prefecture – Territorial Government Office – or in the case of notarial deeds, from the chancellor’s office and court offices – at the Public Prosecutor’s.
For the countries which have signed the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement for Legalization for Foreign Public Documents of 5 October 1961 the Apostille certification is the form of legalization that certifies the authenticity of an official document.

If a document requires the legalization and the asseveration, the legalization has to be done first and secondly the asseveration because even the apostille must be translated. Consular functions are necessary to authenticate a document destined for countries not partaking the Apostille Hague Convention: in this case the document must be deposited at the Consulate or Embassy.
